A one-page website is… a website that consists of just a single page. And that page gives visitors everything they need to start working with you, buy from you or sign up for your newsletter.
There might still be buttons and links to click, but they’ll typically just go to other sections on the page. Or, they might lead to other websites (more on that below).
So, it’s pretty simple. It’s a website composed of just one page. Easy peasy.
Ok, so why would you want to have a one-page website rather than the more traditional multi-page type?
There are clearly benefits – saving money & time. So a one-page website could be a great option for you. But what about the drawbacks?
There are a few reasons why a single-page website might not be the best option for you…
Now you know some of the drawbacks about having a one-page website for your business. So how can you figure out what’s best – a one-pager or the full shebang?
Are you just starting out and new to running your own business? If so, a one-page website can be the perfect way to ease into launching a website for your business. And you can use it to build other pages as you and your biz grow.
What information do they want and need in order to work with you? Do they just need to know the basics and then book a discovery call with you? Then a one-page website could be a good place to start.
Or are you still figuring these out? If your services are costly, people will likely want more information. That means having a dedicated services page (or even a page for each service type depending on your business), and you’ll need a multipage website.
Then a one-page website could be a great solution. With a template, you can add your images and text quickly so clients can get to know you and book your services. Meanwhile, you can work on the rest of your website in the background. Then launch the full site when you’re ready.
In sum, if you’re brand new to your business and just starting out as an entrepreneur (congratulations!), then a one-page website is a great place to start.
And if you’re working on a bigger website but it’s taking take FOREVER, a one-page website can help you book clients in the meantime (if you’re ready for that!). It’s way better than a coming soon page and you can work on the remaining pages in the background.
Finally, if you’ve been in business for a while and have lots of content to share (or if you have a blog), then a one-page website may not be a good fit.
